Rhode Island

In Rhode Island, zero new criminal human trafficking cases were filed in federal courts in 2021. Zero defendants were convicted. There were zero active defendants, so zero percent of active defendants were charged with sex trafficking, and zero percent were charged with forced labor. Since zero defendants were convicted in Rhode Island federal court, none were ordered to pay restitution to their victim(s) in 2021. Federal courts have only ordered a convicted Rhode Island human trafficking defendant to pay restitution in 2016.

*Each State Report’s findings are derived from data the Human Trafficking Institute compiled for the 2020 Federal Human Trafficking Report. Findings are not a prevalence
estimate of trafficking in the state but instead serve as an objective summary of federal efforts to address human trafficking in that state. The Report does not capture
data from state prosecutions, federal or state civil suits, or unreported human trafficking cases.
